Antique Hunting Jug

This rare stoneware Hunting jug dates from around the late 19c.

The main body depicts hunting scenes around the bottom with images of well dressed gentlemen as well as an image of Toby Phillpot (Toby Jug Fame) The jug is fitted with a handle which is also embossed at the bottom. This piece has a salt glaze decoration on the main part of the body with a brown glazed band at the top which covers about 40% of the piece.

The Jug would have originally be used within Taverns to either serve water with spirits of for larger groups would have been filled with spirits.
