Ainu wooden bears, known as kimun-kamuy carvings, are traditional sculptures crafted by the Indigenous Ainu people of northern Japan. These bears reflect the Ainu’s deep respect for nature and wildlife. Renowned for their detailed craftsmanship, each carving is carefully hand-carved from wood, showcasing intricate textures and expressive features that highlight the artisan’s skill and cultural heritage.
This is a great example showing the bear next to a tree, this example has been signed to the back and base. Measuring 32cm tall 26cm long and 17cm wide. The overall condition is very good for its age and is ready to be displayed.
